A message from our Youth Pastor
Younger Youth (School Years 7-9)
During term we run three groups for this age range:
Youth from both sites meet at Northcourt Road for Genesis. The evening starts with chilling out and fun and games together. We explore life issues and what the Bible teaches us in a fun and interactive way. Once a month we also have socials – perfect for inviting your friends to. Older Youth are invited to help lead this group too.
Youth at our Long Furlong site meet during the service for friendship, fun, Bible study, prayers and once a month for brunch. Many of the group also play in the Long Furlong youth band and are active with fundraising initiatives.
Youth at Northcourt Road meet in the Corner Suite for friendship, fun, worship, Bible study, prayer and once a month for brunch. Many of the youth serve on the Ignite children’s team during the 9:30am service and then come to Pathfinders as this is a lovely way to learn and grow together as friends.
Older Youth (School Years 10-13)
During term we run the following groups for this age range:
Youth from both sites meet at in the Barn at Northcourt Road for Space. The evening starts with chilling out and games. We then usually have some sung worship to connect with God, an interactive talk to learn from the Bible, and a chance to respond, discuss and pray together. Lots of young people are developing their leadership skills by being involved with leading, speaking and helping to make Space happen. Every term we also have socials to invite friends along to.
Older youth at Long Furlong meet fortnightly during the service to study the Bible together. We aim to study topics that will help our young people grow as disciples of Jesus. Once a year we plan a youth-led service together. When 4Filled isn’t happening, the young people are involved in serving in some way – kids, tech, music, hospitality, setup, etc.
(2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 6:30pm-8:00pm)
Young people who sing, play an instrument, or help with sound / AV meet for regular jam sessions in church. Any older youth are welcome to join these sessions. Our youth band occasionally lead the 6:30pm service and Holiday Club band too. Contact email@example.com for more information.
All Youth (School Years 7-13)
Once a term we run a special event called CONNECT. This is a time for youth across Abingdon to connect with each other and with God. We usually have food, games, prizes, worship, performances and a talk.
In February we also have a Connect Weekend – a really fun time for the whole youth group to go away together and grow in our love for God and each other.
As a church we spend a week away during the summer at New Wine United. We camp together as a youth group and some of the older youth serve on team.
We also help at the church’s annual holiday club in August – where lots of young people help to plan and lead the activities. The youth band usually leads the worship.
Desire Schools Work
We partner with local youth workers to visit four secondary schools in Abingdon delivering assemblies, lunch clubs, prayer spaces and lessons. In Spring we usually partner with Youth For Christ for an exciting week of mission to one of the local state schools. In November we work with BeSpace to run a prayer space.
New members are always very welcome at any of the groups or socials we run. Please get in touch with Bea Ellaby (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you’d like to find out more.
If you love speaking to young people and are interested in serving them, then we’d love to chat to you. Contact Bea Ellaby (email@example.com) to find out how to join the youth team.
